A couple of weeks ago, when we had the Super Blood Wolf Moon I went to Mojave desert to shoot the event. I've good some decent shots but while waiting for the "orange moon" I took this shot to test my new lens. I seriously like this image a lot more than the Super Moon, so I decided to post it here. The sky had small amount of stars all around the moon but to make it more realistic to what I saw with my eyes I snapped another small portion of the sky next to the moon and merged both images together. I used a small amount of luminosity masks in post processing to get more details. The lens I have is Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 Sport and I've used it with Sigma's 2xTC to get the 600mm f/8 reach, so I kind of had to sharpen my image in a little more creative way.....
Any thoughts? I think it came out great

Looks pretty impressive to me, the details of that impact is cool. -- Jeff

Nice detail in the Moon. But the comp is too contrived for me.

I think it came out spectacular Gregg. I'm curious - is this image cropped at all? I was shooting at 400 and my moon was much smaller in the frame than this.

Yes, this is a crop. It's a 600mm shot. But still, on a longer edge it is around 3500px (the whole image, not the Moon alone). So it's plenty of pixels to get a nice, sharp image. Printing? Well, it might be too small for that, unless it's a small print.

Looks great but stars should not be visible in front of (on top of) the moon.
Jim, even at 1200mm this would be a crop.

There are no stars on the top of the moon. The dots you see are not stars...
