I'm still working on images, hard to believe how many shots you can blast away in such a short period of time.

The original post has more details about the trip, Bosque del Apache is worth making a trip to experience. I'm planning on going back at the end of the year.

The geese performed a mass exit and I didn't have a clue where to focus

This was shot with the Nikon 20mm. Looking back, I should have used the 58mm or even the 85mm... but I still like the shot for what it is. This was the last series of shots in the last light before we made our trip back to Phoenix the following morning.

Top notch set, Hatch. As far as 8 goes, if you are planning for the blast off, try pre-focusing on the front edge of the group. Generally you want the closer birds in focus.

I walked up to the group of 400-500 birds resting...snapped about four shots and then all of a sudden they launched.

it was a panic situation where I just fired away hoping something was in focus. I was going to remove the TC as well.. I had no time to do anything. It was a neat experience to see them take off as they did...I enjoyed the show.

Appreciate the tip.
