Some random photo using S1 with all kinds of glass. I do realize one thing that I pick up S1 way more than Z since acquired it. (could be due to it is new) For a day trip or city trip, you really don't notice any weight difference with S1 and two lenses, but you do like big round view finder(I still believe Nikon is on par consider it has only 60FPS, I look forward Z8, S1round EVF is just looking dead gorgeous with 120fps I am sure this is one of biggest reason over all other trade off )

Michael, does the S1 autofocus your Leica S lenses with Leica S-to-SL adapter?

I’m not Michael but I can answer. No it doesn’t. Aperture stops down correctly though and MF on the S1 is pretty easy.

S lenses do AF with the SL. And hopefully the SL2.

No AF. I don't know anyone want use S's AF anyway I almost never use AF on those S glasses no matter on S007 or S1(can't). However, I have to say I prefer S007's OVF most of time for shooting even with EVF like S1's . S glasses designed to have much large image circle than 35mm system. It show very less vignette on even S007 and no funky stuff at corner as well, this lead me to believe they were designed to cover even bigger image circle than S007 to have cross frame performance.

I seldom use S glasses on S1 though, once you use to S rendering, you can hardly down size to 35mm. However, if you are willing to take a size penalty, sure those S glasses deliver. 24mm f3.5 will be lifeless on S1 though and that one cost 9K. I can imagine I pack S1 as 2nd body for S007 and use high resolution mode for 35/70/120... S1 or S1R can be an awesome 1.2X tele converter, and high resolution can serve digital crop to have even more reach.

Here are some random snap shots to test this combo, notice there are almost no CAT eyes bokeh.

Gordon, thank you very much. I read earlier that AF motor of S lenses do communicate with S1 body. I was hoping that Panasonic could use firmware to update the AF.

Michael, thank you very much. I have used S lenses on my SL body and really like the results as you have shown with your S1. While the AF of S lenses are very primitive compared with other native L mount lenses, they are at least very accrete. For static and non-action subject, it is pretty sufficient for me. I was hoping getting a S1r as a high MP body in between my S2 and SL.

Im having a hard time loving the 24-105. No good for high rez work and quit boring as a general all rounder. Today i tried some close up work and i think it does ok not great.

@Critterracing what part of those shots are not great? They look superb and I mean everything from quality to your composition!

I do understand you idea of it being boring though, I've always had a hard time finding normal zooms fun. They are versatile though.

Finally got my s1! Still testing it out. Wondering if I can still claim the free vlog upgrade? I bought the camera on aug 26. I searched online and found mix answer. Very confusing! Thanks

It is currently on sale with the free v-log update included. I would reach out to a Panasonic rep, or just go return and repurchase to get the v-log update.

there fine for web viewing but printed large not so great. i like to print big and i cant seem to get the sharpness id like from this lens. 70-200 is another story. Totally perfect for my needs. im getting addicted to high rez mode and post focus focus stacking.

high rez shots coming from the 70-200 spoiled me. next week my 50mm 1.4 arrives that one should be very nice lol.

Oh!

In that case I totally understand.

I love printing my self and I always say, if it doesn't show up in print, it doesn't matter (high iso noise, softness etc). But if it does show up in print it is very much a problem. Good to know about the difference in the 24-105 and 70-200, will make me think twice if/when I get the system.

High rez mode and post focus stacking is something m43 has had for a while now and it's fantastic, some people call it a gimmick but I find them very useful. Olympus does the high res one step better as they allow up to 1 minute exposure which works great with water, hopefully Panasonic can get that working in the future as well.

Out of interest, how big is big when you print and see flaws from the 24-105?

Enjoy your 50mm F1.4 when it arrives, I am not at all jealous!

Here is an S1 vs S1R, Normal vs Pixel-Shift resolution comparison I've done. Rather than reformatting all the content and links for FM I'm going to be lazy and just link to my dpreview posting: link.

Here's probably the most useful image in my dpreview post:
Animation: S1 vs S1R, Normal vs Pixel-Shift, Upsized to 600MP, 100% Crops

I agree, it's not a lens to get excited about. But I like it—3 days into my journey with the S1.
