p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Snowy Owls

Yes indeedy, I had the chance to go out to shoot this morning. It was actualy a very nice sunny brisk day. Boy have The clouds here definitely over stayed their welcome. I tired a new location and it payed off big time. I'm happy to say there were a lot less photographers at this location, so you get to spend more time with them without stressing the Snowy Owls out. There was one Female and a juvenile male. The male was extreemly calm with people around. The first two shots are the Female just at sunrise and the other three are a little later of the male. As always all C&C welcomed.

Two and three are my picks. I'm thinking you are looking at two females as the males are usually close to white.

#2 is my top pick, as well. Don’t get me wrong, the entire set is excellent though. Well done, Joe!

Thank you all so much for the kind words its very appreciated!

Morris, Not that I know much about these beautiful birds, it was one of the people I was with that said the one was a Juvinile male because of the somewhat faded black on the chest. Either way they are all beautiful creatures. Thanks again.

Folks, I just want to add a few words (and a link) with regards to gender identification. While it is true that male adult snowy owls are near white, juvenile males look like females - that is to say they have spots. When younger owls are pushed out of territory up north in winter, we often see them much further south. During the last major irruption year here in south western British Columbia, I did not see a single adult male. We had close to 30 snowies here that year.

And now back to regular programming.....
