It would be interesting to know how much it vignettes. Thanks for taking one for the team!

If it does, I would probably continue using 'image averaging' as my ND filter.

Here is one of last sunday with the CV 12mm. I hiked 45 min to shoot this waterfall with the 12mm and the 1635 GM and the former just gave me better results. I wish I could put a CPL on though.

I’m waiting on filters now to try my idea. 6 stop ND and another blank 600mm ring.

OMG this is amazing. Watch this folks. I got the 6 stop ND filter in but not the blank filter ring until Thursday so what I did was slip in the ND filter in just before I hit the front element of the 12mm. Now the blank would be first of course so it sits perfectly flat in the lens and i have enough room for the blank than the ND and I can adjust it just by screwing the ND in more or less. Now 60mm filter ring is perfect it fits tight enough not to fall out, i tried it to but we may need a very thin piece of tape to hold it super tight . Maybe scotch tape or better yet electrical tape since its not thick and it will protect the inner petal hoods too.

So first shot without filter than the filter in place , notice its completely covered by the petals so no light leak bleed in. than filter in place

Notice I have the filter in backwards right now and depending on the blank filter and distance I will see what orientation works best but even if you used a CPL than both sides of it rotate anyway so should not be a issue.

Now i thought I would get pretty heavy vignetting. Surprise I see it a s a 13mm filter. Now I really did not buy the best you can get ND but a nice B+W MRC F-Pro 60mm until I was sure this would work. So I may send it back and get one with IR at more money of course but for now, this was a big guess on my part.

Im feeling pretty darn smart about now.

Indeed great news Guy! It's similar to what we did to the 12-24/4G and 77mm filter.

Perhaps we could have even less vignetting with a super thin ND?

Exactly what Im thinking Fred why I did not go for the best out of the gate but if we went thin CPL and thin or slim whatever they call it in ND as well we may not see anything. Im not counting on it but it is such a small loss right now.

Now until I have the blank coming in Thursday ill know for sure how it all works as a final result as I may adjust the screw threads between them or something like that. Im also thinking and won't know until than that maybe just hand file the rings down just a little and than use electrical tape on rings that way when you put it in you won't scratch inside the petal hood. Its a tight fit now and you have to insert it exactly parallel to the hood. So its pretty dang tight which is good as you dont want it flying out. I think the game plan is just keep the blank attached to the ND or CPL all the time and use this setup for your 12mm. That way your not fiddling around in the field. Again the hard part is finding a UV or cheap 60mm filter ring. The ND and CPL they are out there but the dang blank I had a hard time finding

So, the blank 60mm filter would just be there to clear the front element. Like that we are sure to never touch the glass.

It's a shame breakthrough.photography does not offer a 60mm ND. Would a 62mm work?

Exactly Fred the blank is just to give you the space so your not banging into the front element. You could do without it but than you maybe not straight in the mount too. Rather have that blank in the beginning myself. But as you can see it works as is

62 won't work. Unless you cut the petals and you could do that until you hit the short petals. So if you went blank 60mm than 60mm to 62mm step up than a 62mm real filter you could do that but you got to cut the the longer petals down. Which you know me I may just do that as I already have the 62mm filters for my MF kit in place. My dremel needs some love too. Ill think about that one after I get the blank but its not a bad idea .

I love this shit.

Here are the raws of what I just posted above. You can tell when the filter is off just by the shutter speeds

One other thought is just leaving the blank 60mm filter ring inside the petals all the time. Its not going to effect anything than you can just screw in the CPL or ND when needed. Just want to make it tight inside and that's not a bad idea either.

Exactly like the 12-24 Fred just we are using a blank for spacing reasons

BTW we may have saved a lot of money here buying the filter holder solution and not to mention bulk in your bag with 100mm filters
