I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this is in, but here goes nothing. This was my favorite shot from the series last night, just as totality began to end the scorching Earthshine from the sun lit that puppy up like nobodies business. I had my iOptron Skyguider Pro [Tracker], Lacerta MGEN II [Guider], Astromania 60mm Guidescope, and Nikon D850 with the Nikkor 200-500 firing on all cylinders.

This is a single 20 second exposure at f/7.1, ISO 64.

Excellent capture! Just curious if you had any issue with your 200-500 creeping when extended out to 500mm? Had a heck of a time with mine and finally had to gaff tape it in place. Haha

Thanks, and gaff tape was the answer! Mine was creeping harder than a burgler at a bank robbery. I really wish they put a zoom tension adjustment on this puppy like the Mark I Canon 100-400. I use the 200-500 for shooting deep space objects and I always have to gaff tape the zoom ring with one full rotation around the barrel.

Good to know I’m not the only one. It would be nice to have a tension adjustment for sure.

nicely done. are there any planets visible in this view?

ever tried a wide rubberband instead of gaffer tape?

Thank you! Interesting idea on the rubberband, how would that work? I taped one revolution around where the zoom ring meets the solid barrel of the lens thus preventing it from twisting back.

Sweet shot!
I also have the 850, 200-500, and iOptron Skyguider and was wondering if you were able to get a counterbalance weight to work? Because of that and and angle of shoot, I didn't think I could counterbalance the weight.
Cheers!

I had the counterweights set! It helps keep the rig tracking accuarately and takes off stress on the worm gear drive. Here is a picture of my setup.
