p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Cedar Waxwings

This winter has been very slow in my part of Texas for shooting wildlife.   We had a drought through most of the spring and summer so there is not much food for the wildlife here.  Even the migratory birds have moved their paths to the west where there seems to be a better food supply.

This morning I got out and found a small flock of cedar waxwings feeding on some berries in a bush.

I love cedar waxwings. Nice variety of poses and moments. Great to catch it nibbling on the berries but I think the last is just as and maybe slightly more appealing to me than the others. The straight on shot of the bird posed along one focal plane allows a nice amount of very fine detail from tip of the head to tail. I am curious as the presence of visible noise in these images. Just the way the D500 renders at iso 800 or due to cropping or sharpening. Or some mix of the above. I find it feels less noticeable in the second with the lighter background.

I really don't know. I have noticed it in the past and have did some noise reduction in LR. However, this noise doesn't show up when I print and the printed images look better than when I print with NR.

Probably my own fault in some way or other.
