I don’t think the A7R3 or A73 are getting the exact same firmware. It was kind of unclear which components of the A9 5.0 update would apply. The image on the screen specifically showed the animal eye-AF and the intervalometer and he mentioned tracking via “half press” of the shutter. So it sounds like it might get those two functions at least, but I don’t think it’s going to be the rest of it.

Yes, maybe best described as similar firmware update for A7r3 and A73

What Sony is calling "real-time eye AF" would be better termed as "full-time eye AF", as it now will detect eyes as the normal course of AF without requiring the shooter to engage a button to trigger eye AF detection.

I am really happy Sony is adding this new feature to the A9 instead of having to buy a new camera to get access to something like this 👍. Time will tell if this Eye AF AI is a game changer or not. But, yes sure sounds very exciting to me too!

I wish there was more clarity on what was included in the A7r3 update.

And what does "automatic" mean? I hope it means closest eye to the camera. Except in rare circumstances, who would always want the left eye, or always the right?

"always on" eye-AF will be nice. Granted, I haven't had a huge issue with hitting a button, but it'll give me one less variable to worry about.

I'm hoping this feature will continue to work with adapted lenses with something like the MC-11 also.

If that would indeed come to the A7x3 cameras, too, that would be great and keep owners happy.
It will just arrive before this years wedding season starts.

The "MENU added to assignable custom button functions" will be extremely useful, esp if they allow "My Menu" to be assignable. Nikon has had this for quite a while.
