p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · A7Riii Rattle

Hi
I have recently been carrying my A7Riii in a small rucksack rather than my usual camera bag and I have noticed that the camera rattled when it is not turned on. The rattle stops when the camera is powered up and the camera seems to work fine! Any suggestions as to what the rattle might be ... does your A7Riii rattle?

It's the sensor rattling around. When the power is off, the IBIS electromagnets are off, and it's free to float through the range of motion. Once the camera is powered up, the magnets engage and the sensor is held steady. Very standard on all cameras with IBIS.

Really?

I have a a7R3 and an a6500. Neither 'rattle'.

The only thing I hear 'rattle' on my a7R3 are the pd strap nubs. (probably the same for the a6500 if it had pd nubs.)

I understand your theory of the magnets, but I would be questioning the OP's issue and talking to Sony service sooner rather than later for verification.

While we're theorizing, I can't believe that the sensor moves so much that the resultant noise would be audible. But then, I've been wrong more than once according to my ex-. :-/

If you shake/move the camera fast enough while powered-off then it will rattle. All Sony IBIS cameras exhibit this.

Hmmm. Just the same, I'm not going to try it.
