My son and I spent a few hours at Malibu Lagoon SP in what was to be the final birding trip of 2018! Got 4 lifers and some nice photos. A few selected ones below... all with the 7D2 + 500/4 II + 1.4X III.

Hope you like them!

1. Western Snowy Plover - a near threatened species.

Four lifers--in one day?? Wow, congratulations!

These are beautiful portraits--the light was working in your favor and you captured crisp and colorful details from a low angle.

Nicely done--thanks for posting.

Hi! Very nice photos! Can I ask: Were you shooting hand-held or using a mono/tri-pod? As another response noted, you were shooting quite low. Were you lying on your stomach? (Perhaps that's how you stabilized your rather large 500/4 lens?) Finally, I love the Willet shot with the breaking waves in the background, but it feels like the Willet doesn't pop out enough, maybe because its colors are similar to the waves. Does anyone know what if anything can be done to improve the contrast between bird and background in a photo like this? Or is this not really a issue? Cheers!
