Awesome, Tony! Crunch, crunch, crunch and that's all it takes...

Reminds me of my one outstanding experience with a river otter. I had just swapped the 500 mm lens for the 100-400 zoom, fearing a similar situation. I hadn't sat back down for even a minute before hearing several splashes from around behind the cattails. The otter came out, caught a catfish, snarfed half, preeened, checked me out (!), snarfed the other half, checked me out again (!), preened some more and finally after about 3 minutes total, swam away. It was my longest encounter ever. All the others lasted about 3 seconds...

Good shots; love seeing those pearly whites!

Thanks Kim. Yes, sometimes you get one that does not freak out and lets you take photos for several minutes. The River Otters around here get more of their food from the ocean than freshwater sources. They seem to have no problem munching down all sorts of shellfish, shell and all.
