Photographed in NW Wyoming. This was a major battle for breeding rights. These fights can be very dangerous for the combatants and often leads to serious injury or even death.

Excellent shots! I have seen whitetails fighting like that, but with not quite that much intensity.

Full blown dominance fights are quite rare with both whitetails and mule deer, for good reason. They are quite violent and very dangerous for the combatants. I've seen several fatalities occur during deer fights. This fight lasted 1 minute and 17 seconds from first antler contact till when they broke apart shortly before the final image in the set. They both stood around exhausted fr a while. Whitetails can be this violent as well.
