Merry Christmas, Everyone!

Among other things, I am very grateful that we have electricity again in time for Christmas Eve. We had the worst wind storm in years blow through southern BC and the Gulf Islands last week, and it did a lot of damage locally. The power at our end of the island went off Thursday morning and just came back on this afternoon. Some parts of the island may be off for another day or two, and it sounds like Salt Spring Island to the south of us was hit even worse than we were.

Here's what many stretches of the main road on Gabriola Island looked like the morning after the storm, and as of late today they were still working to get this stretch of the road open, four days after the storm.

It must have been scary listing to the sounds of the wind and snapping trees while in the dark. Well documented

Glad you are okay and have the power back. What a storm you had. Neat shots showing just how powerful it was. Hope all gets cleaned up and repaired soon.

The power actually went off around noon, and we were down by the ocean when the strongest winds and microbursts started - fortunately we weren't near many big trees at the time. We did get to see a nice rainbow...

A terrible storm indeed. And it destroyed the pier at Langley.
