We're gonna go blow some $$$ at an Oklahoma Indian casino this weekend.

Any thoughts on a small lens kit to take with my Df? Keeping in mind I'll be schlepping it around all day.

I have all the AF-D Nikkor primes and zooms at my disposal.

Suggestions?

I would recommend either the 35/2 AF-D or 50/1.4 AF-D. There are both small with good performance.

Agree - a fast 35 would be my go to as well for a general purpose lens if one wanted to bring only one lens. I think perhaps something a bit longer for a second lens would be nice though - like the 85 f1.8 AF-D

Another nice two lens kit would be a 24 f2.8 and 50 f1.4

Thanks. I was thinking 35 or 50 would be a good standard lens, and then something wider. I've got the 16-fish, the 18/2.8, 24/2.8 and 28/2.8. The fisheye might be fun, and it's really small.

I also wonder how 'cool' it is to take pictures in a casino? I certainly won't be doing any 'street' photography,

Whelp, I took some test shots at the distances and fields-of-view that might present themselves in a casino, and the 35/2.0 and 24/2.8 combination seems like a good option.

Itís usually considered not cool. Most casinos donít allow photography inside at all.

Suggest that you use your cell phone for the casino portion.

Not sure if the casino you're going to allow "photography" (meaning with a DSLR).

Carrying a camera and removable lens around a casino is a good way to get thrown out.

Being conspicuous with even an iphone is another good way of getting thrown out.

I would base it on which lenses you are willing to lose because they take them away from you for photographing in a casino.

In what universe do you allow people to take your possessions without a fight?

You're under tribal law when you are on their land, so your rights maybe different. Similar to your rights while being on a military base and the base commander allowing the use of deadly force within certain posted areas. A posted policy about use or possession of a camera while in the casino would also mention their right to confiscate your equipment. The amount of cash in the casino would drive this and prohibited use of a camera to reduce the risk of someone openly casing the casino.

It's a good idea to contact the casino(s) you'd be visiting to see what their photo policies are. Along with the gambling, in Vegas, at least, the casinos like the whole inviting tourist experience and some have spent amazing amounts of money in decorating, architectures, etc., to entice you to be in and around and to keep leaving your money there.

I've found them to be quite willing to let you know where, what and when photography is allowed if you simply ask. They are also quite willing to explain quite clearly what sorts of photography are not allowed should you choose to not ask.

They are usually very firm about (NO!) photography of their security and cash handling processes and areas and very interested in protecting the privacy of gambling guests. I don't think of them as being particularly into the "It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission." thing.

How about a security officer taking your camera in Saudi Arabia? Got it back, but I did hand it over at first.

I've been threatened (didn't stop me), I've been told by cops to stop shooting (I didn't) and I've been escorted off the block by the NYPD (that did the trick), so I'm not exactly shy when it comes to shooting (or reporting when I was still in journalism), but there are universes where I get a tad more cooperative with 'authorities.'

When I would clearly lose the fight. Like in an Indian Casino.
