The other morning on Fir Island. #1 500mm f4 with 1.4 extender. #2 300mm f4 no extender (this from a few winters ago).
A common behavior with flocks of geese when they're feeding in the fields is to periodically take off and circle around, landing about where they took off. I understand this is to confuse predators. I frequently see a portion of the flock, maybe twenty percent (and this can be several hundred birds) or so exhibit this behavior then a short time later another small group will do the same. From my observations it's less common for the full flock to do this. Diligence pays off for these types of images as sooner or later when a flock is in the field they will do a fly around.
