Josh, That would be news to me that a park would bring in a non native species in the hopes they would return each winter. I don’t think that’s the case, but I would be interested if you had any articles, etc. I prefer the natives myself such as the American Wood Duck.

Tim, years back I heard that there was a MD at the LA Arboretum. So, I went there a few days later and I couldn't find anything. I chatted with an employee there and tried to find out more. That person informed me that the ducks didn't last long due to the climate difference. Somehow I was under the impression that they were "transferred" from somewhere else. I couldn't remember the exact info but I thought they were "purchased" but I could be wrong and whatever "transfer" means. There are farms that sell those ducks. One near Davis here in CA and another, seemingly bigger one in Tennessee. Again, I am not sure of the origin of those ducks in our local ponds but they sure are pretty.
