About an hour north of Minneapolis is the Sherburne wildlife refuge which serves as a roosting place for migrating Greater Sandhill Cranes. I went there earlier this month at the tail end of the migration season here but unfortunately it was also deer hunting season there. Not wanting to cross paths with those "shooters", I decided to drive around the boundaries of the refuge. Luckily, I spotted at least 500-600 cranes in a field only 1/2 a mile from the refuge. The light wasn't great but I was able to get a few good shots.
