For the past few years I have been using the Yn622 trigger system to fire off camera flashes. I usually shoot with 2 bodies, and have 2-3 off camera and 1-2 on cameras. I can not find a Yn622 trigger system for Sony, so I assume it doesn't exist. I heard a lot of people use godox, but I also heard a lot of issues with the x1t trigger not firing/mis firing, which is making me think twice. I heard others suggest using the latest godox trigger, but I can not mount a flash on top, which I need.

What is a reliable budget flash off camera flash system for sony?

Godox tt685s plus X-pro is a really good combi.
I do not really understand why you need a flash on camera too, but if so, take a L-bracket to fix the "on camera" flash.
With the X-pro you can use 5 tt685s at the same time.

Some Godox and Mitros+ flash units are transceivers; they can be fired when mounted on camera and trigger off camera flash units at the same time and yes, made for Sony. I am not sure what you are trying to achieve here but this maybe is an option.

Yes I am planning to pick up a few v860ii, which act as both master and slave. But would like to have the option of having a small trigger on camera, and only mount the flash on when necessary. I have been using the yn622 system with on and off camera flashes to create lights to cover banquet hall type events.

Yes, you can buy a separate trigger, which is quite a bit smaller and lighter than the actual flash units. You can trigger multiple flash units with that. I have read some thread or threads here on this forum about misfiring using Good/Flashpoint flash units but personally, I haven't encountered any issues. I believe the problem was solved with upgrading the FW of the trigger but I am not 100% sure now. You may want to do a search...

TT685s + X1T-s,works great. The X1T has a hot shoe for a flash to be mounted while its on the camera. It gets a bit tall on camera but, triggers reliably.

Yes, the X1t works fine, but the X-pro works more simple, and can trigger 5 in stead of 3 flashes. I have both but only use the X-pro since I got it.
I do not see why you should use a flash as trigger as you you can have a radio trigger, that works on all circumstances.

1) like the 860ii a lot but keep in mind the AA flash version can be used with the godox lithium battery packs which will speed up recharge more than the built in lithium battery of the 860.
2) Fot the XTs the hot shoe on top is NOT a pass through so you can’t mount a flash on top of the XTs and get TTL etc. Furthermore, if you want to fire flash on. A bracket with the XTs you MAY need to put the transmitter into low power mode. This can impact your ability to fire off camera strobes and swapping power modes is not super fast. This being said, I most of my brackets don’t reqiuire this approach but 2 of them are just too close to the transmitter. (So they are not being used...)
3) Rather than the bracket issue, you may want to consider the AD200. The AD200 can be bought with an extension head. you can mount the extension head to the on camera spot OR onto a bracket. The new round head will fit on the extension.
4) according to flash havoc, godox will be releasing a new round flash head with a zoom that will be sorta similar to the 860. It seems like a knock off the new profoto. I tried the new profoto and it was fantastic but not 1k for an on camera flash fantastic.

I will point out that you can controll all your stuff with the on camera 860ii but the interface on the Xpro is better and faster to use.

I've read a bit about the TTL issues with the X1t (which can be solved by snipping the two wires inside for TTL - but then no TTL of course unless you have two units, one snipped on unsnipped).

Supposedly the XPro-S has solved this.

I have just bought this setup to get the flash off-camera with the Xpro-S.

It's three pieces if you don't want to buy the set but I love these (and you can buy an 11" arm that fits too (another manufacturer). Chinese brand I assume. Lennon LB1 (base) Lennon LB2 (side) Lennon LA3 (adjustable arm). Sorry for the OOF third shot - just a crop of the whole rig. My hand strap screws into one of those holes in the LB1 base, or of course it can be mounted on a tripod. Should add my pinkie now has a home, instead of floating around, on that LB1 !

I love the access to the battery compartment. Flips open with a push of the switch and auto-locks on closing.

This looks like a great setup. I can find the LB1+LB3 and LB2 on eBay but not the LA3 adjustable arm. Could I ask where you purchased your items? Thanks.

Our business has the Nissin Di700a's and Air Commander.
We invested in about a half dozen of them back when they were the first flash system with radio and HSS.

Whilst they work perfectly in terms of performance, they really, really suck in terms of build quality.
We broke all of them whilst being very, very careful. The plastic feet are first to go and then the diffusion. One broke apart completely after someone got so frustrated they hurled it across the studio, lol.

If you don't care about build quality, they are great, they have HSS as I said and will fire from miles away and never ever miss a beat. You can control 3 groups from the hot shoe mounted Air Commander.

We even used 3-4 of them inside soft boxes and at max sync speed they give at least as much power as our studio lights, with longer recycle times of course.

The Godox 350 is smaller and can be used as a master and slave.

Not the smallest on camera flash, but good if you need on camera and transmitter facilities.

My set up is ZIT-s a 6xx and a 3xx + ZIR-s and ZIR-c.

All on original firmwear not sure, if inter generational comms is trouble free.

Not really what I’d hoped to hear but thanks for the prompt reply.
