Nick, sorry to be a pain, but yes, Fred specifically has said "no gear discussion on the landscape forum" - it goes into the gear forum only"
Perhaps letting this one die and posting again in the Nikon gear forum, may be the best way forward?
I will say though that your question is not very encouraging of answers as it seems a bit lost as to the exact point. Wanting a boring middle ground zoom, and seemingly one lens at that, suggests a person on the wrong track, or not very experienced, but strictured at the same time.
My own viewpoint Is that I couldn't give you an helpful answer to your question from what you have posted, as more detail of how exactly, and what exactly you want to shoot, and the results you seek, compared to your current gear. A lot depends also on how much your budget is.
My own view of what makes a landscape kit for me would be a lens like the 17-35 F 2.8 for all around wide shooting ( I don't care for the look of wider than about 16 or 17mm for regular landscapes), a fast wide which is good for astro-photography such as the 12mm Rokinon, a micro lens, the 24 tilts shift and a 300 f 4.0. Between 28 and about 60, well, to me it's boring land.
Just the 19, 24 and 45 tilt shift lenses would make me stay away from any crop sensor for landscape ( though I have a D500) as the movements don't show nearly the same, and I LOVE having a T/S lens in the bag, if thinking about landscapes.
