I can tell my salmon apart as well as I can tell gulls apart. I believe these are chum salmon.

These fish are heavier than bald eagles are capable of lifting, so not many eagles are in the area yet, despite thousands of the salmon moving up the river and spawning.

The eagles will move into the area in large numbers when there will be many dead salmon on the banks of the river. They can then sit on them to feed.

Yup the salmon are Chum. Large, smelly, slimy and very large sharp teeth.
Nice captures.

Super shot of those salmon. Can't wait until the eagles are on the rivers which should be about another month or so.

Those are some excellent photos of the fish moving up stream, nice.

Are you accounting for the crop factor in your est of telephoto, plus the teleconverter?

That a6500 really turns out some nice pics.

Thanks for sharing those.

Thanks. I have no idea what your mean by Are you accounting for the crop factor in your est of telephoto, plus the teleconverter?

The focal-length shown under each photo is the EXIF and has nothing to do with me.

The EXIF is displaying a 100mm FL and it's a 1.5 crop factor on the a6500 APS-C sensor, so it's really a 150mm FL shot. On the shots where you're using the TC it shows the 1.4 TC. I'm wondering if the a6500 adds the crop factor to the EXIF data when it displays the data. Unless I am missing something?

The EXIF shows the focal-length of the lens, period. A 100mm lens is a 100mm lens, regardless of whether it is on a FF body or APS-C body.

The EXIF will show 140mm if you have a 1.4x TC on the 100mm lens, bot certainly does not also report the 1.5x of the APS-C body.

Great shots of the Chums Tony!
Your timing is excellent and these make super compositions.
That combo with the A6500 looks quite capable. Does it work as well with the TC’s or does the AF slow a bit similar to with DSLRs?

Thanks,
JayT

Thanks Jay. I got the A6500 to test out the Sony waters and am impressed with it. The Sony 100-400G is even better than the Canon 100-400 II, in my opinion. AF is really fast and neither AF or IQ is degraded that much with the 1.4x TC. No idea about te 2x TC. With our poor light in the rainy season of the Pacific Northwest, shooting at f8 is not great. The A9 with the Sony 400 f2.8 would obviously be a far superior combo, but I'm not willing and/or able to pack that extra weight around anymore.
