p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Ground Rule Double at Bombay Hook

It is not often I get to capture shots of Peregrine Falcons but today was a double, a ground rule double because I have yet to capture one in flight.
Both are about 25% crops. The first shortly after dawn capturing the morning rays and the second later that morning with the sun behind.
The first one was 2 to 3 times the size of the second one so I am guessing the second was a juvenile (I enjoy photographing birds but I am not a birder)

CORRECTION
THESE ARE EITHER SHARP SHINNED HAWKS OR COOPERS HAWKS
THIS CONFIRMS MY STATUS AS "NOT A BIRDER"

Very nicely captured. But I think these are Cooper's Hawks.

Thanks Tony - you are the second person to let me know I mis-identified these birds. The first reply thought they were Sharp Shinned Hawks.
I will try to get a positive ID and make the correction.

This is immature cooper's hawk. Round tail in the first image is the clue plus the eye is close to nape and beak of the bird. I cant see a crown from front on picture but these two should be good enough to categorize as copper's hawk. Lovely light in the first image

Distinguishing sharp-shinned and Cooper's hawks is difficult, especially if they are juveniles. I like "The Crossley Guide. Raptors". I would say these images are not sufficient to be able to make an ID other than they are both juveniles. Regardless, they are nice photos.

Very nice find and nice shots.
Those are both Juvenile Cooper's Hawks...it is easy to tell with the way the brown markings are on the breast. The Cooper's have very defined smaller tear drops. The sharpies have more diffuse, wider brown marks with less white space between them.

A quick google image search of juvenile cooper vs sharp-shinned shows that difference in every example so that is what I use to ID the juveniles.

Thanks for all the comments.

I am getting a late start with bird ID since moving to Delaware.
