If you want a certain type of bird to land on your perch, there has to be a reason why that bird would do so. Some reasons are food, water, or convenience.
Most of these perches had suet placed in holes on the top backside of the branches. The hummers perched on the rock because they wanted to bathe. A branch attached to a hummer feeder looks better than the plastic perch. The Merlin found that perch to be a good viewpoint over a pond.
Of course it helps if these perches are placed where you can be close enough without disturbing the subjects.
