I took these while hiking in the Mid Hudson Valley last week. The trees had just started to change with most still green.

Great colors. I miss the fall being down here in Florida. I did get a glimpse since I was in NYC over this weekend. No photos though since I was on an anniversary trip

Have you seen any really good color this year anywhere in the region? Northern NJ has been an utter bust, Harriman usually never fails at all but it looks poor. I wonder if anything other than central and northern Adirondacks and NEK to Stowe and White Mountains will get any good color this year at all.

I wonder if Mohonk might be nice tomorrow? Eastern Catskills? You'd think past and way past peak, but maybe not this year? But I wonder if it's good color even if not past peak? Have you been up that far at all?

On Thurs. Harriman was a mix of bits of past peak (but didn't turn well), mid-peak (but not brilliant) and very green for so late. Always pretty but when you know what it can be, it was shocking.

This will be two years in a row in Northern NJ with total color failure, something that didn't happen once in all the years before since I've been born and none before that that I've heard from anyone. Now it's 3 out of 5 poor to failed years in the N NJ/lower NY region.

There is quite a bit of variation to when peek color is. This year is late and here in Queen and Long Island peek will probably be the last week of October or the first week of November. My photo architraves show this is within normal variation. The wind today will not help yet as you said, plenty of leaves are still green so they will hold on. It's just getting cold so the trees that use temperature to cause the change will start. Others use the sun angle and/or amount of water and it's been very wet. If you want to photograph color right now you need to focus on small areas or even single leaves. Next weekend should allow for wider views
