I’m familiar primarily with Beckett, Pittsfield area as I usually teach a few workshops there every year.
With a car drive up through Jacobs Ladder and then explore Rt. 8. Lots of backroads (dirt and paved) to the east and west of 8. October Mt. state forest area is a good place to visit. For a funky / fun place to have dinner look for the Dream Away Lodge. They might be running on seasonal hours now - but the area near the Dream Away, Beckett, Washington, etc. is great.
There are some unique stone railroad bridges in the area, hiking on the AT and at October Mt. also Bish Bash falls, Mt. Greylock, a great rail trail, Mass MOCA in North Adams, lots to do.
I’m further north in Burlington, VT and can’t comment on color, but from the yard it’s looking like it’s going to be a great season.
