Not much details on this yet, but sure looks like another interesting rangefinder digital camera concept. At least it was conceived by an experienced professional instead of a bunch of students like the Konost. What do you guys think?

According to the PDF, looks like they're already behind in hitting their targets.

Regarding the camera, I think it's a decent concept. On the technical side, wondering what sensor format - APS-C or FF? Where does your thumb go? The menu button and USB port seem to be in the way and in the wrong spot. Shutter release also looks too close to the right edge and not where your finger would naturally land (probably more where the shutter speed dial is located). Why not put shutter speed numbers on the shutter speed dial instead of the tiny LCD?

I've been saying for years I'd buy a camera with no screen and no AF.

Seems like using a lens hood or a larger lens will seriously interfere with the rangefinder.

Based on the "menu/iso" button and the info on the panel, I think the dial adjusts not only shutter speed but also ISO and probably other things, like on the Leica S and SL.

I'd go for a real shutter dial though.

Leica Rumors has posted an update as follows:

12 MP APS-C 4:3 sensor with global shutter (4096 x 3072, 22.5 x 16.9 mm)
5.5-micron photosites
Price: around €3,500
M-mount
Aluminum body
Micro USB
No LCD screen
Sony NP-FW50 battery
Shipping in December

Given the sensor format, resolution and price point, I believe this will not be a compelling purchase for many. But given it's an 'independent' product development, I can't imagine it's easy to bring the price point down relative to the likely sales volume. Global shutter is interesting. I take it to mean no mechanical shutter and therefore full-time silent e-shutter. The APS-C crop of M wides will be an annoyance.

€3,500 might be more palatable with a modest resolution full frame sensor, but there's no denying it's already in Leica price territory relative to what can be found on the used market.

In any case, I look forward to reading user feedback once it becomes available.

Looking good - especially with the M-mount. Potentially a cheap Leica digital alternative. Critical question: how much? If it is the price as above mentioned for 3500 Euro, then thanks but no thanks! Mark it for below $1000, and we can talk....

$1000 is unrealistic in the form of a low volume boutique product. But I agree €3,500 is steep for what you're getting on paper. Maybe the user experience will be magical and therefore compelling enough for some...

I'm no marketing expert, so I'm not second-guessing this project's backers. But one certainly has to wonder about the market research they did to justify this project and which demographic group(s) they have targeted as potential buyers for it. <scratches head>

Almost any secondhand Leica M digital will be more practical, better made, better ergonomically, more flexible, have better IQ and will probably be cheaper.

+1. Exactly. And this will kill this project right there.

Hopefully like Leica, there's more to it than on-paper specs. But I am skeptical. At least it promises to be an actual shipping product, unlike Konost.

So an RD-1? With a FF sensor and 18MP, you’d have something. $3500 gets you a used M246? Hell, an M8 kind of has more appeal.

Why can’t we get a FF sensor on the Zeiss Ikon RF camera?
