p.1 #5 · p.1 #5 · Federal Court Rules in favor of Yellowstone Grizzlies. | |
Several years ago I spent more than two solid weeks criss-crossing Yellowstone. To cover every corner, I drove in from Jackson Hole. Then to concentrate on the main wildlife areas, I stayed in West Yellowstone, Gardiner, Cooke City, and Grant Village. I subscribed to a spotting service that alerted its members to sightings of prominent wildlife. Each night and early morning I also checked other places where fellow photographers posted their sightings. I also checked with the locals in Gardiner, who told me to come back in the fall when the grizzlies are fattening up for winter and coming into town to find easy takings. In my intense search, the only grizzly I saw was outside the park and way out of telephoto range. While I never expected to find a grizzly stationed at every garbage can, I find it hard to believe that the grizzly population is so large that it is ready for culling.
