p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · IXT 1.1 for Fuji released with important improvements

If you're using Iridient X Transformer (IXT) to develop your Fuji RAFs, Brian from Iridient has just released version 1.1. This is the blurb:

The Iridient X-Transformer 1.1 update with support for the new Fujifilm
X-T3 and XF10 models is now available for download. This release has
seen some fairly major changes to noise reduction in the darkest shadows
and shows much improved shadow noise especially with long exposure times
on X-Trans models. This release also brings official support for macOS
10.14 Mojave, including its new Dark Mode.

Brian notified me specifically about this release because I'd contacted him earlier this year with an annoying problem. With the previous version of IXT I was getting many white speckles in dark areas (basically white dots formed from individual pixels or small clumps). I presume this is thermal noise due to longer exposures. They were not being dealt with by IXT, whereas Lightroom was handling them quite well.

Long-story short, Brian fixed it. I tested against some files that had lots of speckles in dark areas and IXT 1.1 eliminates them during raw development. This will save me a lot of spot correction work. Thanks Brian!

If you're using IXT 1.1, can you take a moment to check out the colours in shadow areas? Apparently some people have noticed a colour shift in shadow areas relative to previous IXT versions. If you notice something objectionable, or don't notice anything at all and are happy, Brian would find it useful to hear.

I haven't put any new files through IXT or into Iridient yet but shadows are looking great with a 3EV push with Fuji's Silky Pix. Lot's of highlight recovery possible too. Very nice looking files so far Can't wait to check with other converters and ISO's. Glad Iridient is putting extra work into shadow on shadow noise for XTrans.
