p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Fuji help runaround

Tried for a few weeks getting ahold of someone at Fuji, USA, Japan and Tech folks - to see if Focus Bracketing could be put into the X-Pro2. I want the feature and don't like the X-T2 electronic only finder. The X-Pro2 is their "top" model and I believe it should have the feature.

What happened is a few weeks of runaround between Fuji Japan, Fuji USA and Tech help. Each would refer me to the other saying "we don't know anything, they can help you". Back and forth and back and forth - and back and forth.

Got a lot of "why would you call US - call these guys, they can give you an answer". From all three of them.

I tried Focus Bracketing using a friends X-T2 and the medium format body. I prefer the handling of the X-Pro2. Can't figure why it would not have the feature. Many don't hand hold everything and do use the camera on a tripod for some images. Why not this feature on their "Pro" model? I'm not going to buy another body just for the feature. If I do that I will go with Nikon and dump the Fuji stuff.

Why can't these guys get it together instead of playing "who's on First" when asked a question?

The X-Pro 2 doesn't offer focus bracketing, so what did you expect?

Its not available in the Xpro2, (which doesn't bother me in the slightest)
Do you REALLY expect anyone outside the r&d dept in Japan to know whether they can or want to put it in a future model?
If they did know do you REALLY think they would tell some random punter who asks? Rather they would wait till the model is announced.
I wonder how much of a manufacturer's time is spent fending off daft questions.

The OP's question is not even remotely daft.

I beg to differ.

Sounds like the same runaround I got from the local VW dealer when I asked if they could put the Bugatti Veyron 12-cylinder engine in my Golf hatchback...

Your analogy is as weak as your understanding of the OP's query.

Nobody is asking for 12 cylinder performance to be put into Fuji's CURRENT *PRO* camera.

I happen to own Fuji's current "PRO" camera, and it does have focus bracketing... not to mention 12-cylinder performance.

Fair enough to wonder whether a feature will be incorporated into a camera, but a waste of (everybody's) time to bother wasting Fuji's time.
IMHO, of course, which I don't state as a 'fact'

Their current "top" camera(s) are the X-T3 and X-H1. The X-Pro2 is 2.5 years old now. I don't understand - Did you buy the camera knowing it didn't have this feature, and are now mad that it doesn't?

One person calling the tech help line and asking for a feature isn't going to dictate where Fuji decides to spend their development time and resources, nor are they going to reveal the current internal plans for said feature - I'm not really sure what you expected.

As far as I know, only one Nikon body currently supports this feature (D850), and its setup/ergonomics are nowhere near similar the X-Pro2; I'm not sure where Nikon comes into any of this.

You will never get to the person that is actually making these decisions and if you do, I will be willing to be the answer is no.

As a Technical Support Manager that question is the type that cannot be answered. A Help desk does not have that kind of information. The decision to add a feature to a product is mostly in the hands of upper management and so far they have not even indicated an Xpro-3 is on the way, half as much what feature/features it might include.

With a large company like Fuji helping the customer might mean sending him to another department who "might" know the answer, but that leaves them in the same position - If they don't know they send the customer to another department who "might" know. Thus begins the merry-go-round. Know one could possibly admit they cannot help - that just isn't done and could get someone fired!

Actually, it's the GFX 50S.

I'm mad that my 2 year old Jeep doesn't have the 2018's model's LED headlights...I know it's entirely possible for it to, and I've called everyone at Jeep support, and they keep transferring me...WHAT GIVES?!

The X-Pro bodies have the optical finder and handling, both of which I like.

The X-T2 did not come originally with Focus Bracketing installed, it is an update addition.

Why not the X-Pro2 - supposedly the "pro body"?

I do not expect all the bells and whistles and every feature of newer bodies. A firmware update that has already been done with the X-T2 seems like one that can be done for the X-Pro2. Just that simple.

The Fuji Firmware updates are totally at the discretion of Fuji Management. I must agree the update on the Xpro-2 sounds very possible and doable, but Fuji must decide where money is to be spent on development for these things. Perhaps there is a subtle hardware difference in the two cameras, but I would think Fuji would offer that as an explanation if true. It appears they simply have not put a priority on the Xpro-2. I can only assume sales on the Xpro-2 did not call for the expenditure. That kind of surprises me as I know the Xpro-2 is a great camera and loved by its owners.

For myself I love my XT-2 and have the XT-3 pre-ordered - keeping up with firmware updates is one reason I pre-ordered along with many more.

Well there is the processing required for the ovf overlays etc. So the cameras are similar but not the same. They aim the cameras at different markets, which became obvious when a lot of people asked why no articulated rear screen, there are quote a lot of functional differences.

I don't think there's anything wrong with wondering whether focus bracketing will be implemented into the XPro2 -- I think it would just require a firmware update -- but you can't really expect anyone from tech support to know whether it will be implemented. Those people don't have access to information like that. Allow them to do their jobs which is to provide support for equipment currently on the market.

If you believe they're giving you the runaround, they're probably just trying to get you off the phone and away from their dept. so you'll stop calling.

The X-"PRO"2 is not positioned in the way you (or the OP) suggest (nor was it ever intended). It is NOT their "PRO" camera in that sense (say, parallel to Nikon D5 vs D850). It's distinguishing feature is NOT some different, "pro-level" functionality and build; it is the rangefinder. It's feature set is simply different, not more "PRO" oriented. Isn't that obvious?
