The included hood for the E Mount is threaded so any 58mm third party metal hood from eBay or Amazon will work. Here is an example:

https://www.amazon.com/Rainbowimaging-Vented-Metal-Shade-Voigtlander/dp/B005C82WQK

Alternatively, you could contact Stephen at CameraQuest and ask about a replacement for the original hood.

I purchased a used e-mount version of this lens and the hood was not supplied but didn't notice until after the sale was complete. A costly mistake, it seems. Does anyone know of proper avenues to get a replacement hood for the best price? Or are there third party hoods available that might work? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Also reach out to the person/place you bought it from. Sometimes people accidentally forget to include an accessory and still have it laying around. I once forgot to include the hood when selling an expensive Canon RF lens, which was quite embarrassing – I shipped it to them overnight the minute I realized what had happened.

I bought my M mount 50 1.2 new and it didn't come with a hood. I had to buy that separately.

Unfortunately the VM version is not supplied with a hood. Only the E-mount comes with a hood. However, it's just a screw-in type while the one for the VM is a bayonet type. (but it's $$)

Voigtlander LH-10 (dedicated filter for the CV 50/1.2 VM)
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1433350-REG/voigtlander_bd283a_lh_10_lens_hood.html

or

Voigtlander LH-8 (officially not the dedicated one but it's smaller and works fine)

IMO, the 50/1.2 Nokton is one of the most successful lenses from Voigtlander. I've compared it side by side to the Leica 50/1.4 Lux and rendering pretty much indistinguishable. The Leica performs better at close distance and is better corrected for color error while the Voigtlander has a bit of SA which I find pleasant for portraits.

I picked up a Haoge LH-VM35 rectangular hood for my VM f/1.2 Nokton. Perfect fit and less than 1/2 the cost of the Voigtlander circular hood.

I never warmed to the 50/1.2 Nokton, happily selling it since I strongly preferred the 50/1.4 Lux on the basis of size and close range performance. I’ve come to realize that I’m acutely sensitive to lens diameter in the 28mm to 50mm focal length range. So the 50/1.2 Nokton is far too thick while the 28mm and 35mm f/2 Ultrons are way too thin. Whereas Leica’s own lenses in that FL range perfectly suit my preference in that regard. Objectively though, the 50/1.2 Nokton is indeed one of Voigtlander’s best lenses: excellent haptics, a trace of agreeable softness wide open but very sharp stopped down, with pleasant rendering, at less than a quarter of the price of the 50 Lux.

Thank you as always Fred for your insight! I will see how the third party good goes and upgrade if needed. But sheesh, almost $100 for one of the real things at least here locally. Hoping my $15 version does the trick.

Thanks, but they were pretty adamant they had bought it without a hood. And it never specifically mentioned it includes the hood in the sale posting. And I overlooked it when inspecting it in hand. So, I should have been more observant. Not a lot of FM sales going on locally in my town - I’m sure I would have had a more pleasant experience otherwise as I have in the past!

This image shows a Voigtlander 50mm f/1.2 Nokton Limited edition of 50 units that were sold at the I.C.S. Camera Fair at Matsuya Ginza a few years ago.

The navy blue color is darker in person and one only realizes the lens is not black when light reflects at an angle.

I've recently acquired the 50 1.2 Nokton and compared it to my 50 lux as well and thought the exact same thing. IQ (aside from the Lux being more like 52mm) alone they are so close I stopped comparing after about 10 images. Haptics, focus tab and feel however, I prefer the 50 lux. I've been considering "downgrading" some of my leica lenses including the 50 lux to CV offerings like the Nokton 1.2.

Will I miss the lux if I sell? I don't know. Maybe. But even at used prices comparing both, the lux is at least 3x the price. And for pictures of my family mostly nowadays that seems extreme. Still thinking about it.

The Lux is better corrected for axial CA. It's also a better performer at close distance since it's equipped with a floating element.
The Voigt is less corrected for spherical aberration, especially at MFD.

Currently I own both but use the Leica more often because it's smaller. Price-wise, it's an easy choice though.

However, I have seen a lot of RF mis-calibration with this lens. It took me several copies to find one perfectly adjusted. Of course this only affects the M-mount when using the Leica M body's rangefinder.

I'm glad I found this. I tried a copy of the 50 1.2 and 3(!) copies of the 40 1.2 and all of them were mis calibrated with my m11. I focused on a target at around 2m with the rangefinder while in live view on a Visoflex 2 on a tripod. I think both of those lenses are very nice, but only worthwhile if shooting in live view if they are not calibrated. Debating if it's worth ordering additional copies of the 50 1.2 from somewhere else besides Camera Quest, or just give up.

Been very happy with VM copy. Bought it used from CameraQuest, pretty nice deal. I had a 50 Summilux ASPH silver brass version that got too heavy and I sold it when I sold my SL2-S. Missed the rendering, so picked this up to use on my M10-R and Z7II.. It actually lives in my Z7 II, really great performance all around. I get the unique, soft glow at 1.2 and then stop down just a touch, it is very similar to the 50 Lux.

I rented the 50 1.5 II, and 50 APO and for me, the 1.2 was the far more interesting and flexible lens.

Just wish the damn thing had a focusing tab.. bought some of the 7 Artisans focusing tabs with the tape.. didn't fit it though.. not a flat spot on the barrel large enough to attach them. Oh well, guess I can take the trade-off for the $2,000+ savings.
