On two different occasions, the Pygmy Owl was too far away, but a bonus was getting extra close to a Sooty Grouse. Taken about six months apart.

Maybe third time will be lucky and will get closer to the little one.

They are all excellent photos. I like the second shot of the owl. The sooty grouse is superb!

Grouchy grouse not thumping? It's thumping scared the hell out of me years ago in Yellowstone.

That guy seemed pretty cool. Their thumping is sometimes so low that many people don't even hear it, or when they do, they don't know what it is.
