p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Baiting...a Controversial Practice

I know that baiting is controversial
around here, but I have the most sincere
bait station that I know of in the area...

I have these,

some of these,

some of this,

and even this...

but I don't have any of these....yet

Thanks for bearing with me,
Douglas

Ha - I have your #3 and #4 baits up here at 52 north.... and so far 1 (one) female ruby throated hummer, which studiously ignores sugar water in favour of the salvia flowers. She seems to have a 2 - 2.5 hour visit frequency, and I am still waiting for the right light to get a few FM worthy photos...

Shame on you...what you are doing is disgusting....you are the real problem that give wildlife photographers a bad name....I'm ashamed to have even seen this post and hope my birder friends don't see this.....

FWIW, if they are around in your area, you will get them...likely in a few days depending on the concentration of them in the area.

Last week I counted 7 Rufous on my sweet peas at once in the early morning...most have now started the flight to Mexico...the Annas are happy that they are able to come out of the woods and feast on the flowers and feeders I have out...I have one female rufous left as of today and she still chases the Annas away but there are starting to be too many Annas for her to chase so I think she will be on the next flight to Mexico anyways. Even though I technically live in Canada (The Great White North) I have Anna hummingbirds year round, even in the snow!!

Possibly you will get a butterfly or two. That's all I get at mine :-}

Baiting is only controversial if it works. Hopefully you will be able stir up some controversy soon.

OK - for our OP Douglas, hang in there... the same flowers have yielded this for me the past few days (sorry her more showy boyfriend has not shown up yet...):

For me, even chickadees do not show up at my feeder. Maybe they do, only when I am not there. Douglas, sometimes patience does not work, at least for me.
