Some of you may be aware of the serious invasion of Eurasian Water Milfoil in lakes and ponds throughout North America. Without the use of chemicals, it is next to impossible to get rid of it. Some municipalities have yearly budgets of over $100,000 just to keep the milfoil under control.

This Belted Kingfisher had to struggle to free its right wing from the entanglement of milfoil. It managed to shake it free, but it is definitly a hazard for the Kingfisher.

Sorry about the heavy crops.

They stock the local reservoir with sterile carp to help combat the problem.

The carp in our pond don't make a dent in the milfoil. They do however provide food for the otters, mink, and heron.
