Been lurking for awhile, and occasionally adding my 2 cents but haven't posted any photos. I have been hesitant because there is so much great photography on the site that I didn't have the confidence to compare my work. I've come to realize that while I'm certainly not the best photographer around, my images do deserve to stand with those of the FM community and while none of us like negative criticism, opening myself to the opinions of all of you fantastic shooters will only make me a better photographer.
So, here's a selection of images to introduce myself with.
Welcome from out of the shadows Chris! Great first set with #4 being the standout for me. Great shot!
If you want C&C then I will offer this for the first two images. They seem a little heavy on the contrast and the blacks are a little blocked up. Should be an easy fix if you have the desire. Hope this helps a little.
Thank you Dave for both the welcoming and comments on the images. As a rule, I edit my images for print, then export to jpeg without further processing other than sizing for display. (I'm kinda lazy that way.) Perhaps I should consider having two edits, one for print and one for jpeg. I printed both images in question on matte paper and wanted deep rich blacks, particularly on the RWBB. Since I'm now putting myself out there, I will keep in mind what looks good in print may not be the best settings for online display.
I do have pretty thick skin so keep the C&C comming!
Welcome to N&W Chris. You are off to a nice start. For the RWBB, I don't see any detail in the front of the bird. It may be fine for your printer, but doesn't show this bird as well as I think you could ~ Ron
Welcome, Chris. Love the owl shot. Others covered the RWBB, I'm looking at the crane and seeing lots of blown highlights, no detail. Might be fixable in raw conversion, but I doubt it. Good luck as you progress.
Welcome to posting on FM Chris. The first is a good image. The crain appears to have lost detail in the highlights and is a bit blue. The hawk appears smeared. The owl is a beauty. You have a great attitude regarding how to learn
