You have beautifully documented the adaption of urban wildlife Dave. I love how the first takes a peek and then the rest of the family slowly appear in frames 1-4.

I don't know what the collective noun is for raccoons (how about a black mask of raccoons?), but you sure got a lot of them peeking out from that drain! Great job!

Thanks everyone.

I think Mom was the first one up to check out the traffic. Then one by one they'd peek out and look around.
We watched them for about 10 minutes as the sun was starting to down.
I may have been blocking their path to where they wanted to go, so we figured we'd get out of there and
let them do their thing.

They're fun little critters to watch.

cute, lovable - yes

but love them at a distance - they are aggressive predators and can easily kill your dog; not to mention diseases carried which can be transmitted by fleas, ticks, and feces -- even if you never come within 10 feet of one

there are a number of recent studies on urban wildlife, including this species, and you will be very surprised if you read up on some tracking studies...
