These birds may be considered unworthy by many photographers, but I really like their sleek looks and interesting features. And many species are just so easy to photograph that even I can get a decent image.

1. The Walk - A ring-billed gull doing its best impersonation of John Cleese.

2. Balboa Pier Perch - I believe this is a Western Gull. Please correct me if wrong.

3. A Bit Closer - Could have gotten tighter if I had a few chips to offer. They are really only there for the handouts.

4. Immature Ring-billed Gull - This bird was just hanging out on a path at Bolsa Chica.

Bonus Image:
San Juan Capistrano Mission Building Detail - Didn't see any swallows, but they did have fake nests in place, along with some swallow calls playing over loudspeakers. The mission is on a mission to get the swallows to nest there again.

Cheers!

Ken

Very nice work Ken. I don't believe I've ever seen images of gulls so sleek and white. Growing up on the NE coast they always appeared little ruffled and dingy grey.

Common birds can make for great photos too. I think you have proven that.

Very nice gull shots, and you captured the essence of the Capistrano mission well. It's one of my favorite places to visit throughout the year.

Love portraits, I think Gulls are beautiful, and No. 3 is a winner.

Beautiful work. I never tire of gulls especially considering where I live the only time we see one or two is when a hurricane blows them deep into the mountains.

Cannot vouch for the looks, but I'm sure the whitewash they leave behind is very similar! Thanks Douglas.
