Took an impromptu road trip to White Sands National Monument this weekend. This was my second trip and despite the 104F temperatures, I think I've improved upon my photos from last time. Critiques welcome!

Really nice images! The echos of mountains and dunes are well seen, and the light is lovely. Well done!

Very very nice images! The third one is my favorite though all are very nice. I definitely need to get to White Sands someday.

@ Kap55, thanks, I really like the clean white look of the first. It's surprisingly difficult to find the exact right layers of dunes with the right yuccas but this one hit the spot for me too.

@ Mark, that's really kind of you to say!

@ Guidostow, much appreciated. Camping overnight definitely helped so I could shoot well into sunset and get the early morning sun.

@ Melancholia, haha, that's great! I wouldn't mind if you posted it! I love White Sands pictures.

@ Lostinjapan, absolutely! It's great for photographers but I think non-photographers get bored sooner than later since they're not looking for the perfect dune and that perfect shadow/shape.

I wonder if we shot the same Yucca plant. If my memory serves me well, this was near Campsite #7

I think a 70-200F4 would be the ideal lens there. I had one but sold it, regrettably. 105mm was my max FL on my trip and I wished I had 200mm.

Yep, I would say it's the same one! I was in campsite 5 but ventured over by 6 and 7 to get those shots. Too funny!

Yeah, I have an old 80-200mm and it was glued to my mount nearly the entire time. I rarely wanted wider and rarely needed longer.

Nice set!

That was such a cool place to visit. We went with a small photo tour group. Got there before sunset and left after sunset...........not all day though. Left and came back.

Is the one with the milky way two images combined?

The Milky Way image is one shot at moonset (3:30am). There wasn't actually much post-processing either. The moon was about 80% illumination but since it was low to the horizon, it wasn't washing out everything.

This place always gets me.

2 - crop out the bottom and it's really really good.

3 - the light here is insane. kinda wish you had focus stacked to have sharp front to back but does work as well as presented.

104F aint too bad...it's dry

Thanks everyone--the first is definitely my favorite too. I agree the crop on the second photo definitely cleans it up a bit. I go back and forth whether I like the plants between dunes. Yeah, for 3 I didn't realize the depth of field was THAT shallow. I was shooting f/8 or so but the subject distance was a bit closer.
