This lovely moth showed up on my house this afternoon. Anyone know what kind it is?

Just for clarification....The Sphingidae belong to the Superfamily Sphingoidea. Members of this family are commonly called "hummingbird," "sphinx," or "hawk" moths, and some can be mistaken for hummingbirds.

The images I've seen that are more commonly referred to a Blinded Sphinx Moths have a more prominent eye spot that looks like it has a pupil in the center. So, I think the names are interchangeable and any of those terms describe the moth you photographed.

We rarely see any large moths here. I was very surprised to find it hanging around.
