p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · My 2nd body solution while out birding

I recently purchased a D3400 and the AF-P trio; 10-20 VR-18-55 VR-and 70-300 DX VR for an upcoming hike in Yosemite. So yesterday morning I headed to my local nature preserve for a sunrise walk. I normally take my D500 and Sigma S attached to a Wimberly head and then I'll throw either the 24-120 f/4 in a bag or if I want to go lighter just take a 24 2.8 in my pocket. I very rarely want to take along another body which would be the D750 because of weight. The problem is, 24mm can be too long on a crop body, plus I have to stop, detach my Sigma, take my backpack off my back, and vice versa. So a lot of times I pass on a shot because it just doesn't seem worth the hassle.
Yesterday I brought along the D3400 with the 18-55 attached to the strap of my pack via the Peak Design Camera Clip. The camera and lens is light enough that I barely notice it and being able to quickly just unclick the camera, take a shot, and clip back in is liberating. I found myself taking more shots than I normally would because it was so effortless. I wouldn't want to use the clip with anything bigger than this light body and lens but I can see how this will be part of my wildlife kit.

D3400 shots are all hand held.

I've been shooting with two bodies since my film days and back then I used primes. Now I do it with zooms and agree with everything you stated. I'm not sure what you have in your pack, my photography pack is now used for travel, I used a regular day pack when hiking as I carry the hiking essentials in it (rain gear and/or warmth, water and food). Photography accessories go in my pockets (cards, batteries) and if I carry a ND filter that goes in the day pack so I don't damage it. The second body goes around my neck while the D500 + Sigma 150-600 Sport over my shoulder using a sling. The carbon fiber tripod is in my hand or over my shoulder while hiking. I no longer feel like a mule and am liberated to take photos spontaneously and without feeling hasteled as you described.

Real nice set. You might want to check the white balance of the first and the brightness of the last egret photo. It's great to see your landscapes and there quite good. I like the way you used light, particularly in the next to the last

My choice of bags is dependent on the scenario I guess.
Good catch on the color balance Morris. I used the D500 the day before to take some studio portraits as a favor to a friend and I had set the white balance for my strobes. Forgot to change it when I went out the next day.

A very nice set. I normally just carry the one body with the, (now sold), 500 on it. Sometimes I might use a fanny pack with a lens or whatever small items I might need in it, but that's about all I will do, although occasionally I'll use my big backpack ~ Ron
