Hey there
I'm new to the forum

Where do you prefer to shoot?

I really love shooting in the studio, and you?
Basically, the advantage of working in the studio is freedom with artistic experiments through artificial lighting sources. Shooting outdoor, this is certainly impossible to adjust everything the way you want. However, in the studio, you, as a photographer has all the cards! You can expose various lighting schemes, move and adjust the height and inclination of the sources in accordance with the idea. In other words, working in the studio gives you the feeling of being the master of the world. I'm using Fujifilm X-T2 its mirrorless technology is everything.

WELCOME.

For my pro work its all locations (advertising) and if I need to shoot formal type portraits it's always location to. I prefer available light when I it works. I agree with Eisenstadt that many of todays photographers can't see light. That is a talent all in itself and maybe even more difficult than learning how to use strobe and modifiers. I think learning to see lightt and having the skill to be able to not only work with available light but when that is not an option the skill to use the right light with the right modifiers to give you the look you need to achieve, that makes you feel like you are the master of your craft. Before I get attacked for saying this here are a few examples of first what my formal portraits look like.
One key light, large 30 X 40 soft box in real close and feathered into a white reflector for fill and a spot on the backdrop. On location.

Then a mix of available light and strobe. 30 X 40 soft box and 1/2 second expire to get detail in the monitors;

Another example of the mix I was talking about on some L stop ads and billboards I shot a few years back

Then all available which is always my first choice.
All available light.

Another billboard from a few years back. All available light

all available

My personal work is mostly street and natural/avaialble light.

Shameless plug but I have an exhibit and a book release event Friday June 1st

And a few street portraits. All available...

Welcome Rene!

Studio shooting does provide an unmatched level of control. As a former full time professional photographer, I did spend my share of time in the studio. Location shooting, though, brought its own set of challenges and solving them were equally satisfying.

I changed careers many years ago and shoot for just for me. I especially enjoy travel photography and I also like to do environmental portraiture, both with natural light and also with OCF. I have modest artistic aspirations, despite my B.F.A.

BTW, I also shoot Fuji mostly, with some Canon full frame thrown in.
