p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · In-Car charging over USB C port

sharing this: I just travelled some time far away from power points through NZ and had to charge A7R3 from the car. I used the same 10 dollars ebay Baozu Car Dash Charger for my OnePlus 5 phone (basically any dash charger with USB C would do it) and for the Sony over the fast charging 5 Amp port. The OnePlus is may be the fastest charging phone on the planet and the power gain rate in dash is quite impressive. My impression is that the Sony battery was charging at a similar speed like from the stock charger at home.
Facit: for those who travel in a car over long distances without any contact to civilization apart from 10 min at a fuel station, a phone dash charger is a cheap and easy alternative.

Other things that work quite well:

Large USB-battery packs.

Large USB-battery packs coupled to the car.

Large USB-battery packs coupled to a cheapish, fold-out solar panel.

Bonus points for USB battery packs with: multiple inputs for faster charging, the ability to pass through so that they can charge external devices while hooked up to the car/solar themselves, industry-standard fast-charging.

I used such a USB + solar setup late last year during a 3 week camping trip. Left the panels ($50) tied down to a table/ground/car/tent during the day, charging the battery pack. When covering longer distances, charged the USB pack via the car. Battery pack was used to slowly charge A7rII, phone, laptop, etc.
