Technically not a cactus, but those spines hiding under the leaves are deadly.
They are the scratchers as opposed to the shooters from cactus varieties like Cholla, Saguaro, Prickley Pear... which stab you and send the needles home with you, to enjoy later as well.

Also called coachwhip, candlewood, slimwood, desert coral, Jacob's staff, Jacob cactus, and vine cactus
