p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Sony Kando Trip 2.0

Earlier this year there was an invite on the Sony alphauniverse site to apply for attending the Kando Trip 2.0. I applied and was "accepted;" however I wonder if the bar was not very high to attend since I see very little online hype from other attendees.

The list of instructors is pretty nice, so am looking forward to it. The fee is not too high (IMO) if the event is as intimate and instructive as advertised.

Are any of you attending?

Kando 3.0 registration opened today (per email from Sony). I attended last year so have the chance to register early. New participant registration opens April 1st.

I would love some feedback on your experience. I applied, was accepted (so the bar for admittance must be very low!) and have registered for Kando 3.0. What's not so clear to me is what gear I will need to bring. The classes I want to take are all over the board, from long exposure work using wide angle glass to wildlife (where I may even try to take my new 200-600). How much gear did you take? Did you take a laptop or just wait to download and process when you returned? Any tips for the trip? There's not a wealth of info on the Sony site about each class' requirements, so I'm shooting blind. Also, when do you "register" for classes? Or do you just pick them and show up?

Bring any gear you may use on your type of photo projects. The loaner stuff is bonus! Also, they do clean and check onsite, so bring all your Sony stuff.

Bring a laptop to process as you can share images you create there.

As soon as class registration is open, try to pick what you guess is best for you and register.

There a many opportunities to shot with people in different "sets."

Thank you! That's very helpful. Looks like I'm taking the Think Tank Airport Roller packed with everything. Good to know on clean and checks! I've already made a priority list of the classes I want.

I've never looked much into the price of weekend workshops for photography but is this considered a pretty normal cost?

I get that this hobby attracts a rather well paid/funded crowd but damn. I'm used to paying 1/10th that for some other hobbies...

Workshops vary so much in duration, location, and content, it's hard to summarize a typical or fair price.

1/10 the price is $ 200 or so. I am not aware of any place you can get three days food, lodging and drinks for $ 200 except if you are a regular at a casino (and don't count gambling losses in the $200).

The first day is for arrivals, so two days of heavy workshops. I anticipate there may be a shooting opportunity or two during arrivals, so am planning on arriving early.

It is certainly not for everyone.

I have paid more for a three day workshop without food, lodging, or beverages.

There were hobbyists as well as full-time pros at Kando 2.0. It was my understanding they did not want only full-time pros.

At Kando 2.0, they had models and makeup artists on hand and surfers since it was at the ocean.

I found it personally worthwhile so have signed up this year.
