Yes, Canon 400mm f/5.6L does nicely on A7R II and III.
Depending on the adapter, even Metabones IV, some will AF, some will AF only with good light (direct sunshine) if you focus at far distances. Others might only sometimes AF. Infinity focus is harder on adapters with longer focal lengths
Same lens, same camera, one Metabones IV focuses fine, another Metabones IV (same model) will not focus at infinity on a mountain without sun shining on it. A matter of adjustment for "infinity focus". But who will adjust it? Metabones? Maybe.
AF will be slower than on a Canon body, and with dust like in first image, AF may fail after hunting.
On A7R III you can double tap the rear LCD and manually focus with magnification.
