It should work on your Mac as long as you installed exiftool and use the proper formatting:

exiftool -imagecount /Users/charleswoodrich/Desktop/DSC05434.ARW

Alternatively you could use:

exiftool -s -G -All:*Count* /Users/charleswoodrich/Desktop/DSC05434.ARW

(Make sure the file DSC05434.ARW in on your desktop)

I just installed ExifTool. Like Charlie52, I was confused on how to run this utility. Thanks to Fred's reply, I moved my last ARW to my desktop, did a drop and drag into Utility and bingo, the utility told my my count!!! Thanks, Fred and Charlie52 for posting this info.

I could not find how to uninstall on Phil's website.Any thoughts how to uninstall?

Picture Image editor 7.00 (aka PIE) Is also able to read image counts But not for A7III.

Also right click allows set up of my tags. Double click of image goes full screen.

My tags does not show empty values, so if you have other cameras you can set my tags up to support all of them but still have a clean display

Pie for A7II

I highly recommend "A7Info" which is free.
Here's the DL page http://www.soens.de/downloads/
It has lots of info about camera shutter count, where you focused, battery temps etc.

It's also available for other camera makes too, not just Sony.

This is an awesome tool ! You can also just select a folder and can then see how many shots were at f4, f5.6 etc. A perfect tool for those that were unsure.

Seems I've shot over 8,500 on my A7rii, I thought it was more !

How do you open an image in A7info? I have it but can't figure out how to get the image into the app.

On the left side of the screen go to the folder you want to view the image from.
Make sure you are looking for raw images.
I do not believe it will see jpegs.

So what's too many shutter activations?
I just bought a used a7sii with ~7000 counts and a used a7rii with ~47,000 counts.

Is 47k too many? I've not found any consistent info on the net about this topic.

Anyone here on FM know?

Steve

I'm not sure any amount is 'too many' as it depends on the condition of the camera and of course you can easily change the shutter assembly. I don't know what that would cost but it wasn't much on a DSLR.

Most shutter assemblies vary from 100k to 200k in their 'ratings' by the manufacturers, before needing to be changed. I'm sure one of the more recent cameras was rated 400k but don't remember which one. Obviously what is 'a lot' will also depend on your personal use. If you shoot sports professionally, or birds, or stack 100s of shots, then you might reel off another 50k quickly but for me I've taken 8,500 shots in two years with my A7rii so it's going to last a long time !

Seems like it would be easy to include this functionality in LR after all these years...

Thanks for the response Frogfish.

I have also seen reference to 200k+ clicks as ok, but I don't know. I was looking for a spec sheet on the shutter mechanism with a specification on #-clicks before failure. I'm sure that exists but knowing where to find it is the trick.

The camera I bought is really clean looking condition. I have no idea if it's a one person or multi-person owner, but it seems to work just fine.

I will be surprised if I shoot another 20k pictures, but I don't know.

Thanks again

A7R2 has an shutter life expectancy of 500k, youre just getting warmed up. Even though 500k is an estimate, not a guarantee, you will likely get plenty more use of it

I think I may have got a virus from this website. I think it has some cross-site scripting crap that is on the site.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS SOFTWARE.
