I'm sure this has been covered before but the search function isn't working for me on this subject. Probably user error! Any way how do I determine the shutter count on a Sony a7RII?

Download the latest version ExifTool.
https://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ (PC and Mac)

Here are the command lines:
Works with jpeg or raw files

exiftool -imagecount
OR
exiftool -s -G -All:*Count*

I highly recommend "A7Info" which is free.
Here's the DL page http://www.soens.de/downloads/
It has lots of info about camera shutter count, where you focused, battery temps etc.

It's also available for other camera makes too, not just Sony.

It's also displayed on the top right window under "shutter":

It's also cool that it shows "focus location" even when shooting with a MF lens!

Check the white target on the girl's eye on the right

I appreciate the help, but I guess I'm a little slow in this area. I found the terminal window and entered "exiftool" and this very long narrative came up. Not sure what to do with it. I also tried the A7info app and I couldn't figure out how to get any images into it. It displays the folders in my hard drive (Mac) but doesn't recognize the images. I tried a few things but pop up boxes in German came up and I just cancelled out of them. I'll keep trying.

I also tried the A7info app and had the same problem of how to get the app to recognize and image.

On a Mac. Do the following:

1) Install exiftool.
2) Open terminal and paste: exiftool -imagecount
Notice there is a space after imagecount
3) Locate your last AWR file on your hard drive and drag it to the terminal window. This will add the file location right after the word imagecount

This should give you the shutter count.

Fred - thanks for sticking with me on this. Here's what I'm getting. I haven't used this camera very much. Maybe this is it's way of telling me that it has 5434 actuation's.

Almost there. Before you drag the image to the terminal window make sure there is a space after the word image count.

It should look like this:

exiftool -imagecount /Users/charleswoodrich/Desktop/DSC05434.ARW
(Notice the spacing before your image link)

It should work on your Mac as long as you installed exiftool and use the proper formatting:

exiftool -imagecount /Users/charleswoodrich/Desktop/DSC05434.ARW

Alternatively you could use:

exiftool -s -G -All:*Count* /Users/charleswoodrich/Desktop/DSC05434.ARW

(Make sure the file DSC05434.ARW in on your desktop)

The space after imagecount did it! Thank you so much for your help. BTW the imagecount wasn't 5434 it was 4687. That's puzzling why would the file # be higher actual count?

If you put a SD card that you have used previously into the camera before formatting, it might pick up the file # from where your previous camera left off.
