p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · I think I may have a Voigtlander problem

I have the CV 15 and love it. I have had the CV 40 on order with CameraQuest for a few weeks now. Problem is now I am thinking about the CV 12 or 10. When I travel I enjoy shooting interiors or churches and historic places. GAS is creeping up on me and I think i may want wider than 15mm for an upcoming trip. Am I crazy or just GASsy?

If you have a problem, so do I..
I love their E-mount lenses and currently own their CV 12mm, CV 15, CV 40 and CV 65 lenses.

I love their stuff - I have all the E-mount except the 12, which I sold - also have an M-mount 55/1.1.

I know, i know have the same damn problem but honestly I would not cancel the 40mm as given the percentages you will use the 12mm far less and the 40mm as your lens cap lens. My advice will always be get the higher usage percentage lenses first like 24-85 than dip into the lower percentage lens when more cash is around. If you have to make a choice and man do i know how this happens to me sell one to get one than go with the 40mm. You will thank me later. Besides you can always pan a 15mm

I am not cancelling the 40...no way. 40 is my ideal street shooting focal length.

The question is should I go for the 10 or 12? I have the 15 (and a Loxia 21) but 3mm difference at the wide end is big....5mm is dramatic and my make more sense.

The CV 12 is the better lens over the 10. 3mm is huge in super wide

While I do love their lenses, I've steered away from their ultrawides, for the simple reason of having too many. I was using the 12 for M mount before any of their E-mount showed up, and if I were to go 15, then 21/24, I can cover the same range with 1 zoom to replace 3 lenses. Swapping out 3 lenses of one genre type, ultrawide, is simply too much work, since it doesnt even include "normal" focal lengths.

In my case, I was trying to make due with 12mm straight to 24mm..... that gap was really large, and it needed something in between. Eventually went down the 10 + 16-35 route, and still felt that for a casual outing, carrying two ultrawides felt too much. I do like the idea of simply a 15mm - 18mm and simply make due all the way till 24mm for those times I travel/want smaller.

Would love the CV40 to play with, however with the CV 35 ultron I have, not really a big deal if I dont have one. I might even like the new 50mm better, if it came in E-mount, interested in seeing how it performs.

And the 12-24 is also very good from 12-21. It’s a tough call

I have the Laowa 15 which I like better than the zoom. I may still buy a 20 but ordered the Loxia 25 today

The 12 is considerably better quality toward the frame ends compared to the 10...the latter goes pretty soft. That said, it's the only 10, so if you want a 10, it's the whole choice at present.

I also have the Voigtlander 15 and Loxia 21. I am also a fan of wide and twice rented the Voigtlander 10mm. As much as I wanted to like it , I did not. Far too soft/smeared in the corners. Both times it reminded me of one of the bad copies of the 15mm.

So I reluctantly passed on it and use my Samyang 8mm fisheye. It's smaller, and far sharper. Sure I only get an APS-C image and there is the fisheye effect but they are preferable over the smeared corners for me.

I have also considered the 12 but so far have resisted.

Good luck

PS, wanting a Voigtlander is perfectly normal. 😀

They have far stronger competition at the wide end, and the two macros show they will take on the tough parts of the market (and win). I want to see great character 50mm and 85-90s from them. Someone has to do this in native, and soon. It ought to be them.

The CV 10 definitely makes more sense when owning both CV 15 and Lox 21. However, the CV 12 performs similarly to a good copy of the CV 15 with stronger corners. (The 15 is a slightly better though)
Also, for me, compositions come more naturally at 12mm while not so much at 10mm. Perhaps it's a personal thing.

Some may say 12mm is too close to 15mm. It's true but they are spaced about 11 degrees and I've found situations where 15mm is too narrow and therefore I find it worth it carrying both lenses.

No fewer than 5 times a day I enter "Voigtlander 21mm E mount" into Google to see if there's any news about a release date.

Soooo, we may have an epidemic on our hands here.

No 65/2 APO? You certainly have problem

When I travel I enjoy shooting interiors or churches and historic places.
I prefer Canon 17/4 TS for that, although that lens/adapter combo is huge in comparison

The 10 is a very, very special look.

Yes, it’s my worst lens re: corner sharpness, and uncorrected the LCA is dismal. But it’s very sharp in the central image area, excellent contrast, delicious sunstars and nothing I mean nothing can touch the way it renders certain scenes. I always take it whenever I even possibly might use it.
