Okay, I'm down to two options to buy: Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS versus the Voigtlander MACRO APO-LANTHAR 65mm f/2 Aspherical (I know its not a true marco).

Likes the 90 size, and quick manual change plus it's a Macro
Likes the 65 for sharpness, but maybe the 90 is equal to it, Voigtlander better quality? A lot of photographers have said that their CV65 is the best.
Price is same, should manual or Auto focus be a consideration? I grew up on manual focus, there were no auto focus lenses back them.

Which would you buy?

I think the new Voigtlander 110/2.5 will be a better match for the FE 90/2.8. They will have similar angle of view while being capable of 1:1 macro.
At 1:1, the Voigt. should retain more of its original FL though.

110/2.5 is a good choice, but not available yet....

Best guess is about six months, so it will be a tough decision whether to wait or not. Both the CV 65 f/2 and the Sony F 90 f/2.8 are very good lenses. You are not going to go wrong with either, unless you have strong preferences about AF vs. MF, focal length, or 1:1 vs. 1:2 magnification.

Personally, I have a strong preference for MF over AF especially for macro where I think being precise about having the focus exactly where I want is important, so I got the CV 65 f/2 without even a thought of getting the Sony G 90 f/2.8. I will probably pick up the CV 110 f/2.5 in addition, however, as I would appreciate the longer focal length and the 1:1 macro at times. I think the CV will have an advantage over the Sony G 90 f/2.8 in most ways except AF and perhaps weight.

I doubt you could go wrong with either. However, I HATE using AF for macro. I would say pick one, preferably a nice used one, and then wait for the CV110 APO Lanthar.

I'd not use AF in Macro at anytime. The AF is for all the other times. I especially like AF eye focus for portraits. Good discussion but what about sharpness one over the other or looking at saturation and contrast?

It will be hard to find a sharper lens than the CV 65/2, however the FE 90 is a contender.
The Voigtlander renders beautiful colors and contrast as well and it's APO.

The issue with the FE 90/2.8 Macro is higher copy variance compared to the CV 65...so that's something to consider as well.

I'm not familiar with higher variance in your context, could you elaborate? (2.8 v 2?)

There has been no copy variance ( bad copies) related to the CV 65 but there has been to the Sony 90.

CV is an unknown entity right now, seems like a great lens.
For a macro lens I will also consider Canon 100 macro because it has directly coupled manual focus, not the electronic type found in Sony lenses. Best of both world.

I am using Sony equipment. Although Canon has excellent lenses, I'd rather stay with emount communication versus using an adapter.

The FE 90mm macro weighs in at a svelte 600 grams. The CV 65/2 is 625 grams, the 110mm is a little larger and then the extension comes into play, might be quite a bit more. Suspiciously, the pre-release review we saw did not mention weight or perception of same. Very good images though, will almost certainly be very attractive. The 65mm is very special - buy and sell if 110mm is needed later on?

I went to my local, 50 year old photo retail company and talked to an expert. He said, "Ahh Voigtlander." I thought he was having an orgas.... with the mention of Voigtlander. I'm going back there in two days. He had to transfer the 65mm from one of the other stores in the area. I just received my Sony 100-400MM F4.5 today and at first glance, I might not need either. The photos are incredible!! But I don't want to lug around that size of a lens. Plus I like primes with their better Bokeh.
