The Pacific Northwest (especially Oregon) is totally spoiled with more original and epic landscape then one could exploit in many lifetimes. Even just the Oregon Coast alone would provide more than a lifetime of photographic bliss for those willing and able to get off the beaten path a bit. In a recent interview, I was asked pointedly why my photography and photo workshops concentrate largely on the Western U.S. (SW and NW) and I basically said: "Because it's all there!" Although I travel internationally yearly for other locations (last year Africa/Uganda) I am still in total shock and awe of the beauty (often still untapped) we are so privileged with, in the West!

Techie stuff:

Lately, my workflow has been significantly growing/evolving to be done largely as 32-bit Raw "Smart Objects" in Photoshop. This now allows us to take awesome advantage of some of the very best Layering and Masking finesse tools in Photoshop, yet still remain in a floating/lossless 32-bit space (instead of 8 or 16 bit) much further along! It also allows us to go back and make corrections much like Photoshop "adjustment layers." I believe this might be the exciting future for post-processing! The fine art prints (for myself and others) have taken on a whole new level of cleanliness, color variation, integrity and detail. For more info look me up.

Beautiful photo -- I always love coastal shots of this nature. In addition to the several kinds of motion you've captured here, I really enjoy the strong color in the water in the well.

What an amazing composition, and I love the motion in the ocean! Can't wait to explore some of the Washington and Oregon Coast this spring hopefully

Wow, that is a beautiful image, Mark. Absolutely perfect. I loved that turbulence in that crater thing, and especially that wave splashing onto the rocks in the mid-ground. Keep up the good work.

First of all thank you everyone for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it. I have been overwhelmed with responsabilities in my life and it is really hard to get over here to reply as much as I would love to. So, thank you!

I really hope you get that opportunity. If you study Google earth you can find literally hundreds of new and exciting locations on the Oregon Coast. I even found an arch on a beach that I have never seen photographed ever. I still don't have the right light for it, but if I get the opportunity to get it in good light, I know people will be knocking my door down to find it... So, I'd advise shooting some of the icons but also some original stuff too. The entire Cape Perpetua area is totally loaded with original compositions. Everyone gets so caught up with the overdone "Thors Well" (which is cool) that they don't generally explore the miles north and south of that spot. Again, loaded and prime for original dramatic seascape.

Be careful out there and have fun!

Really great composition revealing the dynamic of the wave actions!

A question for the brownish tint in the foreground waves: it this what you have seen or you interpreted in post? Or are you using the warmer color (foreground) to make it more contrast to the cooler sky color?

Thank you very much for the compliment. Glad you enjoy the image.

The brownish tint is the real color. The violence in the waves was kicking up all kinds of sediment. In fact, there was even bluer color at the bottom then you see here. I felt that people might think it unnatural looking and so at the very bottom water area, in a small area, I actually duplicated the layer into color mode (in Photoshop) and then using a really cool technique (with the eye dropper tool and color mode painting) moved the blue in that area a hair bit more toward the green/brown that you see in the rest of the water in that hole/bowl. This is a really cool technique for fixing discolorations.

Mark you are to be commended for your "coaching" in your photography. It really helps those of us that want to increase our knowledge of the techniques in shooting.
Great work!
