p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Photographing The World with Elia Locardi

Does anyone have any comments / reviews about Fstoppers video/training series of Photographing the World with Elia Locardi? I've watched all of the free footage on YT and it looks very well done. There are three videos in the series - the first dating back to early / mid 2015.

My concern is this... After watching an excerpt of the first video it's clear Elia relies a good bit on third party software such as Nik to do a lot of his post processing. Would this training be relevant today? Are the tools even available today - with the sale of Nik to DXO? I don't want to invest in legacy - the videos are expensive enough.

It seems Fstoppers may have recognized this challenge with aging training videos - the third video (most recent) is strictly Photoshop and Lightroom (from what I can gleam). I would buy just the third video but the recommendation is to start with the first one as they build in complexity as the series goes.

Thoughts?

I've only seen the free stuff on Youtube as well. I get the impression the videos go just beyond post processing. I cannot make a recommendation for you, because I've only watched the free Youtube stuff.

I will say that I've bought the complete Raya Pro system from Jimmy Mcintyre and am very pleased. You get more with the system than just tutorials.

I purchased the first series and learned quite a bit from it, taking notes on how he does things. In the series, he does everything in photoshop and lightroom manually, not relying on NIK at all. It is a good learning tool if you are sticking with LR and PS, and well worth the price.

NIK is still available as a free download, and DXO says that it will be updated in mid 2018.

Hmm - the video I saw showed him using NIK. I thought it was Series 1 but maybe it wasn't. Thanks for the feedback. I'll likely pull the trigger on all three - a $200 discount.

I just downloaded the NIK software from DXO. I don't have long-term plans to use this software and don't want to spend brain-power on learning it just to get through the videos so your comments are encouraging. My goal is to stick to PS and LR (with an eye on Luminar as it matures - I own it).

Thanks - I'll check it out. I do like the delivery style of Elia.
