p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Tamron 70-200mm focus breathing

Can anyone that's got the Tamron 70-200mm G2 lens and has also got a Nikon 70-200mm or Nikon 80-200mm lens please do a comparison at 200mm for me please

Testing mine at 7ft on a tripod, at 200mm with the Tamron, I am at 150mm with the Nikon 80-200mm to fill the same amount of frame

At infinity they are both the same

Thats a lot of focus breathing at the shorter distance!

if you google I think matt granger did a test on this. Focus breathing was similar to nikon 70-200 vr2 but the MFD was shorter so you could fill the frame more at closer distances if needed.

The G2 is a lot better than the original Tamron 70-200 for magnification change at MFD.

The G2's maximum reproduction ratio is 1:6.1. The Nikon 70-200FL is the best of any 70-200 right now at 1:4.76. The Nikon 70-200 II is 1:8.33.

Note that a 70-200 lens by design has to reduce it's focal length down to about 160mm at MFD to AVOID breathing. If it keeps a focal length greater than that, it's actually still breathing, just in the opposite direction.
